Winter Depression

Winter in Germany is not an easy thing to deal with. Not because there is snow everywhere and it is chilly all the time but because you are cooped up in your home for far too long than you expect it to be. This can lead to more serious implications if you are alone at your home.

I got to experience the same in the recent past. I exactly don't know what the real thing feels like but the one I went through was not so simple either. It feels like an endless routine, day after day and no way to get out. It is an added misery if the exams also align at the same time. Everyday I used to wake up and just go through the routine. Before I used to exercise, but later I just dropped the idea and started to stay in bed. I slept early and woke up late. I used to cook simple meals and eat for the sake of it and not just because I enjoyed it. I used to call my parents once a day but that didn't seem enough anymore. I thought this was bound to happen as I was not getting out of my home and hence was becoming lazy.

Finally, I decided to get some fresh air and visited a friend. As we were talking, I shared my experience of how lazy I have become and how I was following my routine and surprisingly she told me that the exact same thing was happening to her. To keep herself from getting bored or sleepy she has been talking to her neighbours or watching new series. We then realized that it was nothing wrong we were doing to ourselves but the climatic changes messing with our heads that made us unproductive, depressed and lethargic. This has been termed as winter depression.

So, if any of you have the slightest feeling that you may be going through this, reach out to people in your life, call your parents or friends, meet once a week, talk to your neighbours as they may be facing the same issue you do, try to indulge in activities and hobbies apart from work, exercise daily and try to stress as less as possible!

Let's show winter who is the boss!
